TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SALE
Website: scissorshop.com.au
ABN: 87 561 670 718
These Terms & Conditions apply to purchases made from Scissor Shop Australia.
Our voluntary returns and trial policies operate in addition to, and do not replace or limit, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
1. PRICES & ORDERS
All prices displayed on our Australian website are in Australian dollars (AUD) and include GST where applicable.
All orders are subject to product availability and acceptance by Scissor Shop Australia.
We reserve the right to correct genuine errors in pricing, product descriptions or website information.
If an item is unavailable after an order has been placed, we will contact the customer and arrange an appropriate refund, alternative product or other agreed solution.
2. PROMOTIONS & SALE ITEMS
Promotions are valid only for the dates advertised and are subject to product availability.
Unless otherwise stated, promotional offers cannot be combined with another discount, promotional code, reward voucher or other offer.
Discounts do not apply to Gift Vouchers unless specifically stated.
Sale and promotional items are not eligible for a refund or exchange simply because the customer changes their mind, unless the terms of the particular promotion state otherwise.
This does not affect a customer’s rights under Australian Consumer Law where an item is faulty or otherwise fails to meet an applicable consumer guarantee.
3. OUR FOUR-STAGE PRE-DISPATCH TESTING
Scissor Shop Australia takes the quality and performance of our professional grooming scissors seriously.
Every set of scissors is individually tested four times before dispatch to confirm that it is cutting and operating correctly and is in good working order.
Testing may include assessment of:
- Cutting performance
- Blade action
- Tension
- Alignment
- General operation and condition
Our pre-dispatch testing provides quality control before an item is sent to the customer.
This testing does not affect a customer’s rights under Australian Consumer Law if a product subsequently proves to have a manufacturing defect or otherwise fails to meet an applicable consumer guarantee.
4. SHIPPING WITHIN AUSTRALIA
Orders within Australia are generally sent by Australia Post Express Post or an appropriate courier service with tracking.
A flat shipping fee of A$15 applies to orders under A$450.
Orders of A$450 or more receive free shipping, unless otherwise stated at checkout.
We aim to dispatch orders within 72 hours, subject to stock availability.
Depending on the item and availability, orders may be dispatched from Australian stock or directly from Japan.
Orders are generally processed Monday to Friday during normal business hours.
Orders placed on weekends or Australian public holidays will generally be processed on the following business days.
Delivery within Australia will generally take approximately 5–10 business days, although Express Post and courier deliveries may arrive sooner.
Delivery times are estimates and may be affected by circumstances outside our reasonable control.
5. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
Scissor Shop Australia ships to many international destinations.
Some products or destinations may be subject to restrictions. Customers should contact us before ordering if unsure whether we can deliver to their country.
International orders of A$450 or more receive free shipping, unless otherwise stated at checkout.
International delivery generally takes approximately 5–15 business days but may take longer due to customs processing, local delivery services or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, international customers are responsible for customs duties, import taxes, VAT, clearance fees or other charges imposed by authorities in the destination country.
These charges are not included in our retail prices.
6. DELIVERY ADDRESS
Customers are responsible for providing a complete and accurate delivery address.
Because professional scissors are valuable items, we strongly recommend providing a secure delivery address.
If tracking indicates that a parcel has been delivered but it cannot be located, please contact Scissor Shop Australia promptly so that we can assist with enquiries with the relevant postal or courier service.
Nothing in this section limits any rights or remedies available under Australian Consumer Law.
7. 14-DAY SCISSOR TRIAL
We understand that professional grooming scissors are precision tools and that balance, weight, handle design and cutting feel can vary between groomers.
Scissor Shop Australia therefore provides a voluntary 14-day trial period from the date of delivery on eligible scissors.
The trial is intended solely to allow the customer to briefly test the scissors and determine whether they are personally suitable.
Testing is limited to once or twice
Scissors may be tested only once or twice.
If the customer wishes to return or exchange the scissors under our voluntary 14-day trial, the scissors must be returned within 14 days of delivery.
The trial is not intended to allow scissors to be used for normal, regular or ongoing professional grooming work.
Testing should be limited to what is reasonably necessary to assess:
- Cutting performance
- Comfort
- Balance
- Handle fit
- General suitability
To qualify for a return or exchange under our voluntary 14-day trial:
- The scissors must be returned within 14 days of delivery.
- They must have been tested no more than once or twice.
- They must not have been used for regular or ongoing grooming work.
- They must not have been dropped, knocked or subjected to impact.
- Blades, tips and cutting edges must not be chipped, nicked, bent or damaged.
- They must not have been sharpened, repaired or modified.
- They must be returned clean and free from hair, product residue or contamination.
- They must have been properly handled while in the customer’s possession.
- All cases, accessories and other supplied items must be returned.
- Original packaging should be returned in good condition.
All scissors returned under our voluntary trial will be inspected and tested before a change-of-mind refund, exchange or store credit is approved.
Scissors showing evidence of use beyond reasonable testing, customer-caused damage, misuse, unauthorised sharpening, repair or modification will not qualify under our voluntary 14-day trial.
This 14-day limit and the conditions above apply only to our voluntary trial/change-of-mind policy. They do not limit a customer’s rights in relation to faulty goods under Australian Consumer Law.
8. CHANGE-OF-MIND RETURNS
Outside our stated 14-day trial, Scissor Shop Australia is not required to provide a refund or exchange simply because a customer:
- Changes their mind
- Decides they no longer want the product
- Finds the product cheaper elsewhere
- Chooses the wrong size or model
- Prefers another product
Where a change-of-mind return is accepted under our 14-day trial, return postage is the customer’s responsibility.
Original delivery charges are generally not refundable for a change-of-mind return.
Any applicable restocking or handling charge will be disclosed before the return is finalised.
We strongly recommend that returns are sent using a tracked service and securely packaged to prevent damage in transit.
9. EXCHANGES UNDER THE 14-DAY TRIAL
Customers wishing to exchange scissors during the voluntary 14-day trial should contact us with details of the alternative model, size or style required.
Exchanges are subject to stock availability and the returned scissors meeting the conditions of our 14-day trial.
If the preferred replacement is unavailable, we may offer another product, a refund where applicable under our voluntary policy, or online store credit.
Any difference in price between the original and replacement product will be payable or credited as applicable.
10. CUSTOMER-CAUSED DAMAGE
A customer is not entitled to a remedy under our voluntary returns policy for damage they cause after receiving the product.
Examples of customer-caused damage include:
- Dropping the scissors
- Knocking or impacting the scissors
- Chipping or nicking the cutting edge through impact or misuse
- Bent blades or tips caused after delivery
- Cutting materials for which the scissors were not designed
- Incorrect adjustment or tension
- Improper handling
- Improper storage
- Inadequate maintenance
- Corrosion resulting from improper care
- Damage caused by unauthorised sharpening
- Damage caused by unauthorised repairs or modifications
- Misuse or use inconsistent with the intended purpose of professional grooming scissors
Where a customer makes a claim that scissors are faulty, we will assess the product and the circumstances of the problem.
The fact that a problem becomes apparent after delivery does not automatically mean it was caused by the customer. Equally, accidental damage or misuse by the customer does not become a manufacturing fault simply because it occurs during the 14-day trial period.
11. ASSESSMENT OF RETURNED SCISSORS
Scissors returned as allegedly faulty may be inspected and tested by Scissor Shop Australia and, where appropriate, a suitably qualified repairer, sharpener, manufacturer or technician.
Assessment may include examination of:
- Cutting edges
- Blade alignment
- Tips
- Tension and adjustment
- Impact damage
- Chipping or nicks
- General condition
- Evidence of sharpening, alteration or misuse
Scissor Shop Australia’s quality-control procedure includes testing every set four times before dispatch.
Where assessment confirms that the product has a manufacturing defect or otherwise fails to meet an applicable consumer guarantee, Scissor Shop Australia will provide the remedy required by Australian Consumer Law.
Where assessment reasonably determines that there is no product fault and the problem was caused by accidental damage, misuse or another customer-caused issue, the item will not qualify for a free repair, replacement or refund on that basis.
12. REPAIRS FOR CUSTOMER-CAUSED DAMAGE
If customer-caused damage can be repaired, Scissor Shop Australia may offer to arrange a repair or sharpening service at the customer’s expense.
The customer will be advised of the proposed cost before chargeable work is undertaken.
No chargeable repair will be undertaken without the customer’s approval.
Once approved, applicable repair, sharpening, servicing and return shipping charges will be payable by the customer.
If the customer does not wish to proceed with the repair, the scissors may be returned to the customer at the customer’s expense.
Where an inspection or assessment charge may apply because no product fault is found, the customer will be advised of the estimated cost before that charge is incurred.
13. FAULTY PRODUCTS & AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER LAW
Our voluntary 14-day trial does not replace or restrict your rights if a product is faulty.
Products sold by Scissor Shop Australia come with consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.
These include requirements that products be of acceptable quality, be fit for applicable disclosed purposes and match their description.
If you believe your scissors have a manufacturing fault or otherwise fail to meet a consumer guarantee, please contact us and provide:
- Your name
- Order number or other reasonable proof of purchase
- A description of the problem
- Photographs or video where reasonably helpful in identifying the issue
We may ask for the scissors to be returned so that the reported problem can be assessed.
A faulty product does not have to satisfy the conditions of our 14-day change-of-mind trial.
For example, a consumer guarantee claim will not be refused merely because:
- More than 14 days have passed
- The scissors have been reasonably used
- The original packaging is no longer available
The remedy available will depend on the circumstances and whether the failure is major or minor under Australian Consumer Law.
Where a product is confirmed to have a problem covered by the consumer guarantees, we will reimburse reasonable return costs where required by Australian Consumer Law.
14. MAJOR & MINOR FAILURES
Where a product has a major failure under Australian Consumer Law, the consumer may be entitled to choose between a refund or replacement and may also have other rights provided by law.
Where a product has a problem that is not a major failure, Scissor Shop Australia is entitled to provide an appropriate remedy, such as repairing the product within a reasonable time, in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions limits those statutory rights.
15. AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER LAW STATEMENT
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
These rights apply in addition to the voluntary 14-day Scissor Shop Australia trial and any other warranty or benefit we provide.
16. HOW TO RETURN AN ITEM
Please contact Scissor Shop Australia before returning an item so that we can provide the appropriate return instructions.
For returns under our voluntary 14-day trial, scissors must be:
- Clean and hygienic
- Secured in their protective case
- Protected against movement and impact
- Securely packaged
- Returned using a tracked service
Please retain your tracking information until we confirm receipt.
Different conditions apply to returns made because of an alleged product fault. The 14-day trial conditions do not restrict Australian Consumer Law claims.
17. REFUNDS
Once a return has been received, assessed and approved for refund, we aim to process the refund within 3–5 business days.
Refunds will normally be made to the original payment method.
Once processed by us, the time taken for the funds to appear in the customer’s account is determined by the relevant bank, card provider or payment provider.
18. SCISSOR CARE
Professional grooming scissors are precision cutting instruments.
To maintain their performance, scissors should be properly cleaned, lubricated, adjusted, stored and handled.
They should not be used to cut inappropriate materials.
Damage resulting from dropping, impact, misuse, inappropriate cutting, improper care or unauthorised sharpening is not a manufacturing defect merely because it occurs after purchase.
This provision does not exclude a customer’s rights where a product itself is defective or otherwise fails to meet a consumer guarantee.
19. INTERNATIONAL RETURNS
International customers should contact Scissor Shop Australia before returning an item.
For voluntary change-of-mind returns, international return postage and any associated customs charges are the customer’s responsibility.
Different arrangements may apply where an item is faulty or incorrectly supplied, depending on the applicable law.
